Experts advocate composite pavement for durable road construction
In view of persistent road failures in Nigeria, experts, after an exhaustive discussion last week, settled for composite pavement-admixture of the well known asphalt and concrete pavements as the reliable panacea to capable of arresting the menace.
The event was the “CED Forum/Award 2016” ceremony, held at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, with the theme: “Concrete Road in Nigeria: Durability, Acceptability and the Economic Benefit to a Developing Nation.”
The Guest Speaker, Dr Isa Usman Emoabino, an engineer, in his lecture, noted that the primary structural difference between a rigid and flexible pavement is the manner in which each type of pavement distributes traffic loads over the sub grade.
Explaining the concepts, Emoabino noted that rigid pavement has a very high stiffness and distributes loads over a relatively wide area of sub-grade, where a major portion of the structural capacity is contributed by the concrete slab itself.
“For a flexible pavement (asphalt), the load carrying capacity is derived from the load-distributing characteristics of a layered system.
“A flexible pavement structure is typically composed of several layers of material with better quality materials on top where the intensity of stress from traffic loads is high and lower quality materials at the bottom where the stress intensity is low.
“Flexible pavements can be analysed as a multi-layer system under loading. A typical flexible pavement structure consists of the surface course and underlying base and sub-base courses. Each of these layers contributes to structural support and drainage.
“When hot mix asphalt is used as the surface course, it is the stiffest (as measured by resilient modulus) and may contribute the most (depending upon thickness) to pavement strength,” he stated.
The Speaker listed the advantages of Asphalt (Bitumen) as being economical, as it is still less costly compared to concrete. It also takes less time to build an asphalt road than a concrete road. Asphalt dries faster, freshly laid asphalt can carry load immediately.
Asphalt is recyclable, it can be used again and again by melting it; it is also easy for maintenance; and repairing just a part of the asphalt road is easily possible. Asphalt roads can be relayed over the old layer, and they provide better traction and skid resistance for vehicles and tends to help keep roads free from ice and snow.
However, its disadvantages are that in the context of durability, heavy rain and other extreme weather conditions damage the asphalt road, and they need frequent repairs.
“Excess axle load causes deflection and deformation on the road including weather pollution. Melting asphalt produces lots of harmful greenhouse gases. Asphalt is a costly petroleum product,” said Emoabino.
Conversely, rigid pavement structure is composed of a hydraulic cement concrete surface course, underlying base and sub-base courses.
According to him, the surface course (concrete slab) is the stiffest layer and provides the majority of strength.
“The base or sub-base layers are orders of magnitude less stiff than the concrete surface but still make important contributions to pavement drainage and frost protection and provide a working platform for construction equipment.
“Rigid pavements are substantially ‘stiffer’ than flexible pavements due to the high modulus of elasticity of the concrete material, resulting in very low deflections under loading”.
The rigid pavements can have reinforcing steel, which is generally used to handle thermal stresses to reduce or eliminate joints and maintain tight crack widths.
The construction of a rigid pavement is a fairly complex process which involves; proper preparation of the sub grade and sub-base, placing reinforcing bars or dowels appropriately, Careful choice and handling of aggregates

Man Kills Step-daughter for Ritual Purposes in Ogun State
A man, identified as Korede Odubela, has killed his step-daughter, Amudalat Oshimodi, for ritual purposes.
Odubela carried out the heinous act in connivance with Lekan Lawal, at Imosan area in Ifesowapo Local Council Development Area of Ogun State.
The duo, confessed to the crime and they were among the 12 suspects arrested for various offences and paraded at the Police headquarters in Abeokuta, on Tuesday, by the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu.
The CP said the victim was strangulated to death by the two, while her head and hands were sold to ritualists.
“It is true that Lekan Lawal and I connived to kill my step-daughter. The girl was 16 years old; she was always stealing her mother’s money.
“And the mother said we should kill her as a sacrifice for the other children she had. Since she normally sleeps at the door post outside. So, on the fateful night around 12 midnight, I invited Lekan Lawal, and he held the girl by the neck and strangled her while I held her legs.
“That was how she died,” Odubela said.
The suspect claimed that his step-daughter’s head was sold to his son, Seun, a herbalist at N3,000, as first instalment.
The victim’s mother, however, denied her husband’s claim that her daughter should be killed for any reason.
The CP told journalists that the case was still under investigation, while the corpse of Amudat has been deposited at the morgue of General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.

“I Would Rather Burn In
Hell Than Worship A
Monster Called God”–NigerianTransgender,Stephanie Rose Says.
Nigerian transgender Stephanie Rose, is
full of hatred for the Lord our God and
is coming out again to insult him and
call him a monster.
Stephanie, who was born a man named
Dapo Adaralegbe, was expelled from the
Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife,
where she was studying Law due to her
homosexuality. She later underwent
surgery to become a woman.
In her latest rant, she has taken to her
Facebook page to share a post by an
avowed atheist, Amenhotep
Kingsagreed, where she thinks that God
is the devil himself.
Follow the jump to see what she says
about God and why she believes God is
the devil as she quotes from the Bible.
(This is one of those times you’ll see why
our people say “even devil know Bible
pass any man”. See her Biblical claims
after the jump:
“I’m amazed that people who claim to
read and worship the words of the bible
tend to be so ignorant about just what
the bible says. I wonder how many of
them know that god is quoted many
times in the bible admitting that he is in
fact evil.
I will list those passages below;
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create
darkness: I make peace, and create evil:
I the LORD do all these things.
Exodus 32:14 And the LORD repented of
the evil which he thought to do unto his
people.
Joshua 23:15 Therefore it shall come to
pass, that as all good things are come
upon you, which the LORD your God
promised you; so shall the LORD bring
upon you all evil things.
Judges 9:23 Then God sent an evil spirit
1 Samuel 16:14 But the Spirit of the
LORD departed from Saul, and an evil
spirit from the LORD troubled him.
2 Samuel 12:11 Thus saith the LORD,
Behold, I will raise up evil against thee
out of thine own house
1 Kings 9:9 …therefore hath the LORD
brought upon them all this evil.
1 Kings 14:10 Therefore, behold, I will
bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam
2 Kings 6:33 …Behold, this evil is of the
LORD;
2 Kings 21:12 Therefore thus saith the
LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am
bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and
Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both
his ears shall tingle.
2 Kings 22:16 Thus saith the LORD,
Behold, I will bring evil upon this place
Nehemiah 13:18 Did not your fathers
thus, and did not our God bring all this
evil upon us, and upon this city?
Jeremiah 4:6 Set up the standard toward
Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil
from the north, and a great destruction.
Jeremiah 6:19 Hear, O earth: behold, I
will bring evil upon this people
Jeremiah 11:11 Therefore thus saith the
LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon
them
Jeremiah 35:17 Therefore thus saith the
LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel;
Behold, I will bring upon Judah and
upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all
the evil that I have pronounced against
them:
Jeremiah 44:2 Thus saith the LORD of
hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all
the evil that I have brought upon
Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of
Judah
Jeremiah 45:5 …behold, I will bring evil
upon all flesh, saith the LORD
Jeremiah 49:37 …I will bring evil upon
them, even my fierce anger, saith the
LORD; and I will send the sword after
them, till I have consumed them
Micah 1:12 …. evil came down from the
LORD
Micah 2:3 Therefore thus saith the
LORD; Behold, against this family do I
devise an evil
So as you can see, Jehovah god admits
that it is he that does all evil, not some
“fallen angel” who gets the blame.
The reason Satan gets the blame is solely
so that the Christians can convince
themselves that it’s not god doing it. But
if you claim that god is not capable of
committing evil acts then you are
“giving false witness” and committing
“blasphemy” against god and his
character.
Now I ask you, why do you feel that this
“god” is deserving of worship? Even if
you believe that he does exist, after all
he has done and all he admits, why
would you want to devote your life to
him? Of all the men who have lived not
one of them can come close to the evil
that this god is. No one has caused as
much death and destruction that this god
claims to have done.
It’s funny, the relationship that people
have with this god reminds me of
battered wife syndrome. He’ll beat you
into submission, threaten you with
terrible punishments if you don’t
comply, convince you that you deserve
that horrible treatment because your
bad deep inside, then tell you he only
does it because he loves you. Actually
it’s not funny after all. It’s pretty damn
sad.
Which ‘other uncontrollable devil’ is
humanity searching for when the
creator and inventor of evil has
declared itself? The position of evil can
not be checked because the same God is
the creator and inventor of all evil.
Evil started from the same hopeless and
foolish God because such useless and
senseless God is evil. They do not go to
Heaven and they do not go to Hell fire,
the same God is the exact devil that
deceived all religions about an untrue
Heaven and untrue Hell fire!
Hell fire is a fallacy of imagination. NO
BODY GOES TO HELL FIRE.”
Nawa oh! Abeg country pple post ur view of dis case.

Why we knock before opening mortuary door – C-River mortician •How we speak to ‘stubborn’ occult corpses THE proprietor of Emeka Mortuary, Okunmi Community, located at the suburbs of Ikom, Central senatorial district, Cross River State, Mr. Kalu Ben Chima, popularly called Emeka Ambulance, has revealed the spiritual combats morticians, now and again, go through with occultists and members of some secret societies before their corpses were embalmed in his mortuary. •Mr Kalu Chima & •Emeka mortuary The Arochukwu-born mortician, whose mortuary is located along Ikom-Calabar highway, confessed to NDV that dead bodies, especially those of occultists and members of secret societies “do give us trouble while being embalmed because their bodies have been ‘fortified’ by the devil or some spiritual forces.” Power pass power “In such cases, we have to pet and persuade them by talking to them to allow the chemicals to penetrate their bodies, but if they remain stubborn, we have to employ our own spiritual force and of course, power pass power and we can then embalm them,” he disclosed. According to him, he learned the trade in Onitsha General Hospital, Anambra state, and had come to know that some dead bodies were so “powerful” such that they do not allow others to lie close to them and he was always careful when attending to such bodies. Some corpses don’t allow others to lie near them His words: “Some powerful people do not allow other dead bodies to lie close to them, so in the night, they will remove other bodies near them and dump them far from where they are or they would go to an isolated place and lie there – all dead bodies are not the same, which is why we knock before we enter there.” Mind-boggling tales Our reporter traveled from Calabar to Okunmi to meet Mr. Chima following some strange reports about corpses in his mortuary established in 2010. A few months after it was established, there was an unsubstantiated story about a man, whose car broke down close to the mortuary late in the night and he decided to seek for place to spend the night, and knocked on the door of a house he saw light burning close by. A security guard reportedly came out and gave him a mat to sleep in a section of the room, only for him to wake up the next morning and discovered that he slept among corpses and he instantly passed out. Another case was that while conveying a corpse, the mortician occasionally walked behind the ambulance, while the corpse drives the van and the bizarre- that he sells body parts of dead people and so on. Chima confirmed some creepy stories and described others as hearsay. On the man who allegedly slept in the mortuary with corpses, he said it was not true and he does not keep security guards in the mortuary. Corpses still have spiritual powers His words: “The corpses may be dead, but they still possess some spiritual powers to protect themselves. We have about 100 corpses right now and 18 abandoned ones, but we keep the place open, both day and night, without any security and anybody, who attempts to do anything funny by going there to steal or do anything has himself to blame”. He, however, described as false claims that some people sell parts of dead people or do have sex with them. Sex with dead, a deadly affair Chima asserted: “Do not think that because she is lying down there, she is finished and you can go and have sex with her. You will die also in a matter of hours or days and how can someone sell body parts of a corpse or water used in washing a corpse, such water is poisonous. People die from different ailments such as HIV/AIDS, and water used in washing their bodies is poisonous and any person who uses it will either die or contact sickness.” On the report that he has rented crowd of women, who engage in bogus weeping when a person dies, he said the women were part of a specialized funeral services he offers. Some people hire mourners before their death He explained: “Some people do not have people to cry for them when they die, so they will arrange with us while they are alive to get some women to cry during their burial and also, some people because they are polygamist would arrange with us to organize the casket, grave, and mortuary services so that when they die, there will be no struggle among family members on who to do what and so on.”
