Man Kills Step-daughter for Ritual Purposes in Ogun State

A man, identified as Korede Odubela, has killed his step-daughter, Amudalat Oshimodi, for ritual purposes.
Odubela carried out the heinous act in connivance with Lekan Lawal, at Imosan area in Ifesowapo Local Council Development Area of Ogun State.
The duo, confessed to the crime and they were among the 12 suspects arrested for various offences and paraded at the Police headquarters in Abeokuta, on Tuesday, by the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu.
The CP said the victim was strangulated to death by the two, while her head and hands were sold to ritualists.
“It is true that Lekan Lawal and I connived to kill my step-daughter. The girl was 16 years old; she was always stealing her mother’s money.
“And the mother said we should kill her as a sacrifice for the other children she had. Since she normally sleeps at the door post outside. So, on the fateful night around 12 midnight, I invited Lekan Lawal, and he held the girl by the neck and strangled her while I held her legs.
“That was how she died,” Odubela said.
The suspect claimed that his step-daughter’s head was sold to his son, Seun, a herbalist at N3,000, as first instalment.
The victim’s mother, however, denied her husband’s claim that her daughter should be killed for any reason.
The CP told journalists that the case was still under investigation, while the corpse of Amudat has been deposited at the morgue of General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.

I Would Rather Burn In
Hell Than Worship A
Monster Called God”NigerianTransgender,Stephanie Rose Says.
Nigerian transgender Stephanie Rose, is
full of hatred for the Lord our God and
is coming out again to insult him and
call him a monster.
Stephanie, who was born a man named
Dapo Adaralegbe, was expelled from the
Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife,
where she was studying Law due to her
homosexuality. She later underwent
surgery to become a woman.
In her latest rant, she has taken to her
Facebook page to share a post by an
avowed atheist, Amenhotep
Kingsagreed, where she thinks that God
is the devil himself.
Follow the jump to see what she says
about God and why she believes God is
the devil as she quotes from the Bible.
(This is one of those times you’ll see why
our people say “even devil know Bible
pass any man”. See her Biblical claims
after the jump:
“I’m amazed that people who claim to
read and worship the words of the bible
tend to be so ignorant about just what
the bible says. I wonder how many of
them know that god is quoted many
times in the bible admitting that he is in
fact evil.
I will list those passages below;
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create
darkness: I make peace, and create evil:
I the LORD do all these things.
Exodus 32:14 And the LORD repented of
the evil which he thought to do unto his
people.
Joshua 23:15 Therefore it shall come to
pass, that as all good things are come
upon you, which the LORD your God
promised you; so shall the LORD bring
upon you all evil things.
Judges 9:23 Then God sent an evil spirit
1 Samuel 16:14 But the Spirit of the
LORD departed from Saul, and an evil
spirit from the LORD troubled him.
2 Samuel 12:11 Thus saith the LORD,
Behold, I will raise up evil against thee
out of thine own house
1 Kings 9:9 …therefore hath the LORD
brought upon them all this evil.
1 Kings 14:10 Therefore, behold, I will
bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam
2 Kings 6:33 …Behold, this evil is of the
LORD;
2 Kings 21:12 Therefore thus saith the
LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am
bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and
Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both
his ears shall tingle.
2 Kings 22:16 Thus saith the LORD,
Behold, I will bring evil upon this place
Nehemiah 13:18 Did not your fathers
thus, and did not our God bring all this
evil upon us, and upon this city?
Jeremiah 4:6 Set up the standard toward
Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil
from the north, and a great destruction.
Jeremiah 6:19 Hear, O earth: behold, I
will bring evil upon this people
Jeremiah 11:11 Therefore thus saith the
LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon
them
Jeremiah 35:17 Therefore thus saith the
LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel;
Behold, I will bring upon Judah and
upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all
the evil that I have pronounced against
them:
Jeremiah 44:2 Thus saith the LORD of
hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all
the evil that I have brought upon
Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of
Judah
Jeremiah 45:5 …behold, I will bring evil
upon all flesh, saith the LORD
Jeremiah 49:37 …I will bring evil upon
them, even my fierce anger, saith the
LORD; and I will send the sword after
them, till I have consumed them
Micah 1:12 …. evil came down from the
LORD
Micah 2:3 Therefore thus saith the
LORD; Behold, against this family do I
devise an evil
So as you can see, Jehovah god admits
that it is he that does all evil, not some
“fallen angel” who gets the blame.
The reason Satan gets the blame is solely
so that the Christians can convince
themselves that it’s not god doing it. But
if you claim that god is not capable of
committing evil acts then you are
“giving false witness” and committing
“blasphemy” against god and his
character.
Now I ask you, why do you feel that this
“god” is deserving of worship? Even if
you believe that he does exist, after all
he has done and all he admits, why
would you want to devote your life to
him? Of all the men who have lived not
one of them can come close to the evil
that this god is. No one has caused as
much death and destruction that this god
claims to have done.
It’s funny, the relationship that people
have with this god reminds me of
battered wife syndrome. He’ll beat you
into submission, threaten you with
terrible punishments if you don’t
comply, convince you that you deserve
that horrible treatment because your
bad deep inside, then tell you he only
does it because he loves you. Actually
it’s not funny after all. It’s pretty damn
sad.
Which ‘other uncontrollable devil’ is
humanity searching for when the
creator and inventor of evil has
declared itself? The position of evil can
not be checked because the same God is
the creator and inventor of all evil.
Evil started from the same hopeless and
foolish God because such useless and
senseless God is evil. They do not go to
Heaven and they do not go to Hell fire,
the same God is the exact devil that
deceived all religions about an untrue
Heaven and untrue Hell fire!
Hell fire is a fallacy of imagination. NO
BODY GOES TO HELL FIRE.”
Nawa oh! Abeg country pple post ur view of dis case.

Why we knock before opening mortuary door – C-River mortician                                       •How we speak to ‘stubborn’ occult corpses  THE  proprietor of Emeka Mortuary, Okunmi Community, located at the suburbs of Ikom, Central senatorial district, Cross River State, Mr. Kalu Ben Chima, popularly  called Emeka Ambulance, has revealed the spiritual combats morticians, now and again, go through with occultists and    members of some secret societies before their corpses were embalmed in his mortuary. •Mr Kalu Chima & •Emeka mortuary The Arochukwu-born mortician, whose mortuary is located along Ikom-Calabar highway, confessed to NDV that dead bodies, especially those of occultists and members of      secret societies “do give us trouble while being embalmed because their bodies have been ‘fortified’ by the devil or some spiritual forces.” Power pass power “In such cases, we have to pet and persuade them by talking to them to allow the chemicals to penetrate their bodies,    but  if they remain stubborn, we have to employ our own spiritual force and of course,    power pass power and we can then embalm them,” he disclosed. According to him, he learned the trade in Onitsha General Hospital, Anambra state, and had come to know that some dead bodies were so “powerful” such that they do not allow others to lie close to them and he was always careful when  attending to such bodies. Some corpses don’t allow others to lie near them His words: “Some powerful people do not allow other dead bodies to lie close to them, so in the night, they will remove other bodies near them and dump them far from where they are or they would go to an isolated place and lie there – all  dead bodies  are not the same, which is why we knock before we enter there.” Mind-boggling tales Our reporter traveled from Calabar to Okunmi to meet Mr. Chima following some strange reports about corpses in his mortuary established in 2010. A few months after it was established, there was an unsubstantiated story about a man, whose car broke down close to the mortuary late in the night and he decided to seek for place to spend the night, and knocked on the door of a house he saw light burning close by. A security guard reportedly came out and gave him a mat to sleep in a section of the room, only for him to wake up the next morning and discovered that he slept among corpses and he instantly passed out. Another case was that while conveying a corpse, the mortician occasionally walked behind the ambulance, while the corpse drives the van and the bizarre- that he sells body parts of dead people and so on. Chima confirmed some creepy stories and described others as hearsay. On the man who allegedly slept in the mortuary with corpses, he said it was not true and he does not keep security guards in the mortuary. Corpses still have spiritual powers His words: “The corpses may be dead, but they still possess some spiritual powers to protect themselves. We have about 100    corpses right now and 18 abandoned ones,    but we keep the place open,    both day and night,    without any security and anybody, who   attempts to do anything funny by going there to steal or do anything has himself to blame”. He, however, described as false claims that some people sell parts of dead people or do have sex with them. Sex with dead, a deadly affair Chima asserted:    “Do not think that because she is lying down there, she is finished and you can go and have sex with her. You will die also in a matter of hours or days and how can someone sell body parts of a corpse or water used in washing a corpse, such water is poisonous. People die from different ailments such as HIV/AIDS, and water used in washing their bodies is poisonous and any     person who uses it will either die or contact sickness.” On the report that he has rented crowd of women, who engage in bogus weeping when a person dies, he said the women were part of a specialized     funeral services he offers. Some people hire mourners before their death He explained: “Some people do not have people to cry for them when they die,    so they will arrange with us while they are alive to get some women to cry during their burial and also, some people because they are polygamist would arrange with us to organize the casket, grave, and mortuary services so that when they die, there will be no struggle among family members on who to do what and so on.”

MTV strips Wizkid of ‘Best Africa Act’ •Gives it to Tanzania’s Alikiba

•WE’RE SORRY — MTV •‘WIZKID NOT HAPPY’

Wizkid has been stripped of his award as ‘Best Africa Act’ by MTV days after he was announced winner of the prestigeous MTV European Music Awards. His Tanzanian counterpart, Alikiba how been announced as the real winner of the award after MTV admitted to have given Wizkid the award in error.
In what looked like a turn of events for the Nigerian music star, R gathered that Wizkid, who had celebrated the award on all his social  media platforms in the past few days has now been left smarting over MTV’s decision to strip him of the award he won just days ago. He had been announced as the winner of the prestigious award a day before the actual show was held.
However, the MTV EMAs website, on Friday reflected Tanzanian singer, Alikiba as the winner of the award, a development which has left Wizkid’s camp in a state of confusion with a source close to the singer revealing that Wizkid was not happy about the decision of MTV but he would not make any further comments on the development for now
R, however, gathered that Wizkid, on Friday, deleted all reference to him winning the award off his social media pages  and would follow it up with an official statement as soon as he returns from his trip to Durban.
It will be recalled that this isn’t the first time Wizkid and Alikiba would be at loggerheads over recognition. The two stars reportedly had an altercation at Chris Brown’s Mombasa Rocks Music Festival in Kenya a few weeks ago where Alikiba made claims to be a bigger star than Wizkid in Kenya.
Reacting to the mix up, an MTV spokesperson said “Both Wizkid and Alikiba are great artistes and deserving winners at the MTV EMAs and we congratulate them wholeheartedly on their achievements. We apologise for any confusion but we are pleased to recognise the achievements of both artistes on this global paltform.”
Also commenting, Tanzania’s Alikiba said “thanks to MTV for this huge honour. It is very exciting to be recognised at the MTV EMAs and I am delighted to bring home the award to my fans in Tanzania and East Africa. Thank you to my family and management.”
Unusual:Bank staff gives birth In Aba Market. A female staff of one of the commercial banks in Aba, Abia State, simply identified as Mrs. Onyenweife, has been delivered of a baby girl at the popular Cemetery Market in the city. Sunday Vanguard gathered that Onyenweife came to the market to make purchases when the baby’s head suddenly started coming out. She screamed for help and was later taken into a yet to be completed plaza where she was safely delivered of her baby. Speaking at his residence, her husband, Mr. Dominic Onyenweife, said his wife, whose delivery date was due, according to the doctor’s report, was going to her bank’s branch at Eziukwu road, where she works, to take permission from her bosses ahead of her child’s delivery. “I thank God that the mother and the child are alive. I asked that the mother and the baby to be taken to any hospital for proper medical examination, but the nurses who were later called in certified her fit after administering some injections. I am going to take the full responsibility of training her to the university level and will also name this plaza after this baby,” Amadike said, at Onyenwife’s residence. Speaking on the incident, some traders at the Cemetery Market, including Chief Cletus Obi, who witnessed the incident, said it was the first time such a thing would happen in the market.

CHIBOK GIRLS RELEASE: Presidency rejects claim FG paid $21m ransom.                         The Presidency has described as untrue and unfair media reports which claimed  renewed attacks in Borno State were as a result of recent release of the 21 Chibok girls. It also denied that it paid $21 million ransom for the girls’ release, stressing that the success achieved so far in the decimation of Boko Haram in the North-East was largely as a result of  the effort of the military. In a statement by  presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, last night, the Presidency said that such amount of money had never been budgetted for anywhere for that purpose. The statement read, in part, “Over the past few days, some newspaper reports   ascribing the recent terrorist attacks in Borno State to the government’s negotiation of the release of 21 Chibok girls, with a particular report alleging the exchange of USD 21 million for the girls are false and should be disregarded by members of the public. This loose talk is journalism at its most irresponsible and its most dismaying. “As a responsible government that is run on the basis of the constitution and budgets duly appropriated by the National Assembly, we have no such money under any allocation to pay out this outrageous sum of money as ransom. “Beyond the call of journalism, the newspaper making this charge has a national duty to point how and where this money was paid, and to supply leads as to where the “powerful weapons” were bought by the terrorists. “From the inception of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, the media, local and international groups, have persistently pressured the government to do everything possible to facilitate the release of the Chibok girls. “During the election campaigns, President Buhari himself expressed commitment to this and also to bringing an end to terrorism in our country. We then wonder why anyone is turning the defeat of terror and return of the missing persons against the government. “As at the time he came into power, Boko Haram occupied 80 percent of Borno State, 40 percent of Yobe, and a significant segment of Adamawa. Today, the group does not control any territory. The government also has successfully enabled the release of 23 Chibok girls, while negotiations for the release of more, possibly all the rest, are in progress. “The successes recorded by the government in the fight against terrorism have been a result of collaboration between our country’s   various security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services, the Police, the Civil Defense, Air Force, the Navy and the Army. Representatives from these arms of our security agencies were also involved in the process of the release of the 21 Chibok girls. “It is, therefore, unfair and reckless of any medium to quote unnamed, allegedly disgruntled sources within the military, who now claim that the girls’ release has reinvigorated Boko Haram”.

  1. Bobrisky's Revelation on his Wealth and his HIV Status                                                                   In the past couple of months, leading Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has been one of the top items trending on Google search, more or less, to prove he is now something of a celebrity. If he has learnt anything by this, it will be, that, with fame comes some pain. But as fragile as this acclaimed Africa’s male barbie is, he’s meeting all his troubles half-way and shrugging them off. When the news went viral last week, that a doctor had certified him HIV positive, the Ogun State-born cosmetics maker responded, not only by debunking the story but went as far as obtaining a test report that gave him a clean slate. Not satisfied with just the report, he posted it on social media for the whole world to see. In a telephone chat with Potpourri, the furious Bobrisky said many people had asked him to sue the pen-happy blogger, saying he wouldn’t understand why some people love to pull other people down. Africa’s Male Barbie and Cross Dresser, Bobrisky “People don’t understand what blogging entails. Some people will wake up one morning to begin blogging about people. There should be rules and guidelines governing every profession. That guy that posted that false news doesn’t know what he has just put himself into. I am sure he will never come out of it, if I really go after him. I will put myself to a test and post the result on line. So people will know that I am HIV Positive. If I had charged him to court, I know some people will come out to say I am wicked. I have been advised to pick his case up but I won’t do it. I know he needs to survive but that doesn’t mean he should drag another person’s reputation in the mud. The story has gone viral and I am really sick about it. I am HIV Negative and I don’t know where this is coming from,” he said with a pained voice. So many people have been on to the feminine personality, accusing him of being gay, a transgender and what have you and he has consistently insisted he’s just a cosmetic seller, doing his business differently. “People fail to understand that I am only using what I have to get what I need. I am only doing something to make myself different from many others who are into this same business of mine just to get people’s attention. And thank God, now I have more customers than you can imagine. I am a millionaire,” he told Potpourri. So, how rich is Bobrisky, we asked. “At least I have been counting millions, so, I can say I am a millionaire but I want to get to the trillion stage. One case of my cream is N100,000 and in a week I can  sell between 8 – 10 or more. Doesn’t that make me a millionaire?"

Miss Anambra Sex Video: Pageant Organisers Deny Video as Pre-condition For Winning

The organisers of the Miss Anambra Beauty Pageant, Anambra Broadcasting Service(ABS) has denied ever coercing the beauty queen into making the video as a precondition for winning the pageant.
A release made by the MD/CEO of the company, Nze Uche Nworah described a publication in a national newspaper where Chidinma Okeke, the embattled former queen said her performance in the sex video was used as a pre-condition for her to win the pageant as false.

Nworah said Miss Okeke’s assertions were barefaced lies, and that the security agencies have been briefed and were working to reveal the true motive behind the video.

He said the video was sent to him by an anonymous person, to notify him of his queen’s involvement in lesbian act, and that she had quickly called the queen an told her of it, advising she brings her parents into it to seek a solution to it.

“After the handover of the crown by Miss Chidinma Okeke to the Miss Anambra project executives in the presence of the ABS management in the office of the ABS MD/CEO, I dismissed all the other members of the management with the exception of the ABS lawyer and one of the Miss Anambra project executives.

“I went on to show Miss Chidinma Okeke the videos I had received that day from the anonymous individual and the messages from the person, I then asked her if she had any knowledge of the video and she said yes. I advised her to go home and confide in her family. I have not seen nor spoken to her since that day as I do not know her whereabouts.” Nworah said.

He said the entire scandal has been politicised, with political opponents of the governor capitalising on it to make trouble for whatever reason.
“It would also appear that Miss Chidinma Okeke has become a pawn in a larger politically motivated conspiracy.”
He said he would rather wait for security agencies to finish their investigations and come out with what truly transpired than joining issues with people.

SOCIAL ETIQUETTE:BEING STYLISH IS IT SHOWING OFF?                         Being stylish does not mean you have to break the bank to do so. Being stylish is wearing that thing that makes you look good. It should flatter your body shape and reflect your personality. Of course, you should also feel good in the clothes you wear not because you intend to show off but simply to acknowledge that you are on point with your grooming skills and you are consistent with how to coordinate you appearance with panache. Style is peculiar to the individual, it may be developed overtime with age, fashion, time and tastes. You may be young and decide to go with longer hair or fuller hair as a man but as you get older you may feel that shorter works better for convenience. In the same light the stage you are in life promotes or demotes your style. I often wonder when young pretty women get married they simply forget about themselves, blow out of proportion and then struggle to get the pounds off when push comes to shove. Your clothing portfolio should stretch across your personal budget. Don’t be an impromptu buyer and buy for the sake of it. If you do, you will have a wardrobe full of clothes that are almost similar in style, colour and nature or a wardrobe full of clothes you do not really need because one year later you still have not worn it. The best way to get value for your money is to do a quick analysis. Cost of Outfit = True value of outfit. No. of times worn There is an adage that says “I’ve worn the life out of that shirt” meaning you have gotten the full value for your money so much so it is worn out and due for a change. The truth about being stylish should also flow with the nature of person you are, the nature of your job and the people you associate yourself with. Remember three things when it comes to being stylish (a) What do you want (b) What do you need (c) What do you have Always invest in what you really need and not what you really want, with all these in mind why would you be showing off just by being yourself. If you like quality things then go for it. If you like cheap and cheerful work it well. Looking good isn’t luxury. It is something we all have to do and often without having a spend a fortune. Being stylish is involves a huge bout of confidence. never apologize for looking good or stylish, be brave enough to carry it well. Always walk the walk and talk the talk, where you think it matters most. Being stylish will continue to give you that added panache advantage which you need to stand out from the crowd. You will exhibit poise, polish, posture and presence. It is time to Exert yourself, Excel yourself, Expand yourself 7 Style Tips from Board Room to Dinner Room Females 1. Carry an extra outfit if it is impossible to go back home 2. Change your shoes to a higher heel to assist your gracious walk 3. Remove your jacket if you are wearing one 4. Information reaching me from the EFCC this morning is that there is no circular to arrest anyone,
What The Hon. Speaker Dogara Said is that activities if MMM  be investigated, and 4 weeks is given to the committee of ethics and finance to report back to the House on the activities of MMM  in Nigeria.   Investigating MMM is a welcome development as this will further show to the world that we are not scammers as they have painted us. So there is no need for panic.
The media being who they are, have blown this out of proportion so as to create fear within the community. If we allow for panic, the Establishment have won and that is not what we want.
During my conversation with Guider Yinka this morning  I was reassured that we at the top are speaking one voice,  we are not taking this media chants lightly,  we are already doing all that is within the law to protect our members and ensure that no one falls for this panic move.

Let's go about with our normal activities with more vigilance and care,
*no one should use MMM in our Narration when we make payment,
* no need uploading fake pop  to create pain for others

Let do what is right.
Mind you the federal Govt of Nigeria can not shut down MMM site, there are regulations to shutting down internet sites and as a member of Internet Engineering Task force (IETF) and Internet Society (ISOC) which provide internet standards, laws and ethics monitors the activities of internet sites,  I can tell thT Operations of MMM site have not contravened the laws, neither have MMM gone below the ISOC standards and as such the FGN can not shut it down,

MMM does not preach hate neither is the site used for crimes and Hate related issues.

Be rest assured that all is well.
I wish we as participants know why the so called establishment (govt and financial, media bodies)  fight us we will be more determined to continue our participation. They want to keep the masses poor and MMM  have said that will not happen now they want to fight it.

Let's be united lets be one

MMM!!!! The Risk That Pays

People pls what's your stake on this issue. ..comment  below.,
Teacher Arrested for Raping a Student              A 20year old teacher was arrested in Ibadan for allegedly raping a 10-year-old boy. The man, whose name was given as Collins Obi, was caught after allegedly having anal sex with the boy. While confirming the incident, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Adegbuyi, through his Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the bubble burst when the mother of the abused boy reported the matter after her son confided in her and related what happened between him and his teacher. He said: “The Oyo State Police command has arrested a teacher in Ibadan for having anal sex with one student. The 20-year-old primary school teacher, Collins Obi, was arrested for having anal intercourse with a boy aged 10 years. “The suspect, who was also an extra-moral class teacher to the victim, committed the unlawful act on November 7, when he lured the little boy to a house in the neighbourhood at Asaka, Itamaya area, Ibadan where the offence was committed.” The police spokesperson explained that the arrest of the suspect was made following report made at Iyaganku Police Station by the victim’s mother. After the victim reported the incident to his mother, detectives from the police arrested the suspect in his hideout.” During interrogation, the police claimed that the suspect confessed to the crime and disclosed that he was introduced to sodomy by an older friend now at large. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical attention. According to him, Adegbuyi had directed immediate arraignment of the suspect in court after completion of discreet investigation by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

Banire: I Don’t Encourage Bribery

Dr. Muiz Banire

National Legal Adviser of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Dr. Muiz Banire, in the week stunned both the observers and the active political players, when he set an unprecedented record by standing aside to allow for an investigation into allegations of bribery of some judges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. In this exclusive interview with Shola Oyeyipo, he clarified the issues and maintained that he does not engage in bribery of any sort. Excerpts:
How do you place the recent insinuation which seeks to suggest that you are one of those who bribe judges?
In the first instance, the person in question, to me, I would say, at least as at the time I gave him money was not a judge to the best of my knowledge. He was a colleague when we were both at UNILAG campus in those days. I left UNILAG in 1999 and since then, till last week, I think it was November 3 or there about that I just set my eyes on him. I have never seen him since I left UNILAG. I never knew he had become a judge at all.
I have never appeared before him at any point or in any case whatsoever let alone discussing. So, it is surprising that mischief makers will interpret a kind gesture based on his solicitation. All I remember which they can confirm from him was that he sent me a text three years ago, as a former colleague, that he lost his mother and he was financially depressed, needed some assistance, which I rendered to him. I even put my name. If I wanted to bribe someone would I have sent money to him indicating that I sent money?
Certainly, it is not true. It is unfortunate again that people are misinterpreting ‎my kind gesture in terms of my visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) because it was not the EFCC that invited me, I went there on my own volition, based on a letter I wrote to them. I said I heard that my name was being mentioned in a particular transaction: please I want to come to explain my version.
I went on my own volition to tell them, let me help your investigation as it concerns me, because it is not Banire alone. There were at least as at the last count, about nine Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs)‎ and several other lawyers, who the man solicited fund from in one form or the other.
I don’t think it is criminal. I don’t know any law that says that you cannot assist somebody, particularly a friend. Even if the person turns out to be a judge, there is no law that says so. No law to the best of my knowledge, particularly in this instance. I am sure the man will gladly tell them that and since 1999 till last week, I have not set my eyes on him.
Are you worried?
Well, I must tell you that I am perturbed. I am disturbed because everybody around me knows that I am one of the foremost anti-corruption crusader, particularly as regards judicial corruption.‎ As recently as some few months ago, I still held a roundtable on the same subject that was even misinterpreted that I was attacking judges. So, how suddenly would I have turned round to say I am the one engaging in it? More so, Industrial Court is one court that most of us don’t even go, so, how would you go there to go and be influencing somebody?
Would you say the EFCC has not been thorough in its investigation?
My perspective is that now that we are talking, the EFCC has not said to me I have committed any crime. Like I said, their investigation is still ongoing. They have not even concluded any investigation. They just started and I was the one that volunteered to go there on my own, not that they invited me. But I feel that some people don’t appreciate what I have done, but I believe it is my own duty, particularly, it is often said that those who live in glass house should not throw stones.
Where I am presently, which I believe is one of the basis for which they are giving undue interpretation, publicity and or propaganda to the issue, is the office of the Legal Adviser of the party. And to that extent, I believe that it is my duty to assist EFCC, which is an arm of the government we serve and is prosecuting one of the major agenda of the government. So, it is on my own volition that I went there and I believe that they should be assisted in whatever direction that you can to get to the root of anything. So, for me, the investigation has just started. Nothing has been said that a crime has even been committed or alleged. There seems to be a lot of misconceptions out there.
Do you think there could be political undertone to this?
Of course there is. In the first instance, I have been reluctant to see it as a political thing but I must confess to you, there are some political maneuverings along the line. I would tell you for example, if you see most of the newspapers, where they carried the news item, it’s been an isolated case of Muiz Banire, whereas there are several other lawyers out there that the same judge solicited money from under one guise or the other – that “my mother died” or “somebody died for‎ me” or he had a problem. Several other lawyers he solicited funds from are being equally investigated by EFCC.
But those who want to achieve political mileage decided to tuck it aside and making it look like it is Muiz Banire that has gone to bribe somebody. Secondly, you will discover that rather than they saying I walked up to them to help the investigation, the impression they are giving is as if I was invited or even arrested. It is equally not true!
And thirdly again, when investigation is just commencing you don’t just go out there and engage in media trial. The regrettable thing about Nigeria is that those who might have heard about the commencement would not be there when the matter is being concluded. However, I am not honestly so much disturbed about that because, again in life, particularly as a leader, you must expect those kinds of challenges from time to time.
How do you see this ending?
Well, I would not know how it would end, but the worst scenario that can happen is for people to be charged to court. The good thing I can assure you is that because I know I am innocent, number one, it cannot end up otherwise. I am very sure that I am very innocent. I have no official relationship with the so-called judge whatsoever. For the first time in my life, I went to join a Senior Advocate in a matter at the Industrial Court, for the first time since they established that, about a month ago and by the time I got there, I was shocked he was the judge from our days at UNILAG as lecturers. He was equally in the Institute of Advance Legal Study. I didn’t know that he had become a judge.
If it happens that such judge had sent me a request, I would have gladly obliged him because I would not have even known, although there is nothing forbidding me from giving him if he were to be a judge and in any of the customary circumstances, for example, during burial, marriage ceremony, child naming or something.
What if your name comes up in another case of bribery?
That is what I am saying that if my classmate or a friend, who is a judge, is doing something that is customary, if I get there, I will give him. I don’t see any law that forbids me. You need to establish that I am giving him that money to go and influence or impair his judgment in any regard.
People must not also forget that a majority of our friends will naturally be lawyers. We lived our lives as lawyers. In our student days, it was lawyers that were our classmates. They are the people who will eventually become judges. What is important is that whatever you do must not impair the course of justice. Once that is out of it, then you have not done anything wrong.
People speak highly of you. Recently during your 50th birthday prayer, a judge said if you lose a case before him, you don’t come to ask why. That you would rather go back to study the judgment and see why, so, how do you relate that ‎to this development?
Let me tell you, some judges will be my classmates, some seniors and some juniors. Even those that are extremely close to me where they sit alone, you will never see me appear there. And I am sure, I will not mention their names; people will even tell you, I will not. My boys can go to your court but you will not see me appear before you because I don’t want to put you in a very difficult situation that people will start insinuating that may be he is being influenced or something. I would not!
Those who know me when it comes to the issue of money, the way God has created me is to continuously be philanthropic. Today, if you go out and ask how many students I have sponsored, I would not be shocked if you have over 1000. Most of them I don’t even know. I can tell you in almost 10 years now, it is a minimum of at least 10 law school students that I pay their school fees at N300,000, sometimes 15 – some abroad and some locally. I tell you, 90 per cent of them I don’t know. I get to court, some of them will greet me and prostrate and say “you don’t recognise me”, I would say I don’t, then they would say “you paid my school fees during Law School” and I would say don’t worry.
Without fear of contradiction, I can say that 80 per cent of what I get in my life I spend on people. I don’t spend more than 20 per cent on my family, so, nothing unusual for me to give people. In fact, in Lagos here, you will have thousands that will come out – religious, individuals, associations, clubs, even the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) – that will come gladly and say what this guy has done.
Could this have any effect on your philanthropism?
No! I would not allow it because things like this must always come up. I will continue to do what I am doing. Even last week, I cannot count how many others. I told the interrogator, I said in a week, if I don’t assist people I will assist not less than 10 people in one form or the other. At times I have even had to borrow money on somebody’s behalf because if a student wants to do exam, he is at a very crucial stage of his career and could not get the money and I have the credibility to get for him, why wouldn’t I do it? So, giving somebody money, for me, is nothing unusual. And if you want to bribe a judge, would you go and bribe a judge with N500, 000?
What is your take on the recent arrest and subsequent interrogation of some judges by the DSS and EFCC?
Honestly, for me, anything that is lawfully done towards sanitising the judiciary, I am for it. Of course, my position has always been that we must avoid any form of illegality, because today, we can uphold it but when it becomes a precedent, it would start hunting all of us. I told you, I single-handedly convened a roundtable on this subject five months ago. And it is a continuous effort that all of us would have to make.
In fact, in my own instance, again, it could be corruption fighting back because they know me. I can tell you all the people I have come across in our legal profession, both lawyers and judges, will tell you that I am not the kind that will ever! I spend time preparing my cases, I go to court regularly, people see me when I argue my cases and no judge will say I lurk around to see him or her in the chamber, not me! You wouldn’t find me. It’s not me at all! The only thing is that we should not take it to a ridiculous level that would now become comedy. In my case, I just laugh everyday over the matter. Bribe a judge in a court I don’t even visit until a month ago when I went on solidarity appearance. I wasn’t the one doing the case.
Do you see the judge in question coming to say he solicited for help from you?
The man has no other story to say in respect of everybody. He had said it to everybody. From what I even overheard from them at EFCC, because there is no other story to it. If there is any other story, you can say you are taking a gamble.
